Smart Home and Smart Car Features Winning with Today’s Homeowners – Infographic

More and more, today’s homeowners are incorporating smart home and smart automobile features to make their lives easier, better, more efficient, less expensive and more enjoyable.

Americans’ love affair with technology is seemingly endless. The more they get, the more they want. This Deloitte infographic shares data from their annual Mobile Consumer Survey which shows not only how much time U.S. consumers spend consuming and sharing on mobile devices, but the extent to which today’s homeowners want smartphone and app technology integrated seamlessly in solutions that:

·      improve their home entertainment experiences

·      keep them connected with friends and loved ones at home and on the road

·      reduce the time and monetary costs of home ownership and auto maintenance

·      improve efficiencies

·      help them spend less time in transit but still

·      get where they want to go

US smartphone users are currently using 5 GB of data per month, per phone. That number is expected to increase by 5 times by the year 2022, to 26 GB per phone. (AndroidHeadlines.com) In 2016, 40 percent of US smartphone users checked their phones within the first 5 minutes of the day:

·      29% checked text messages

·      29% read emails

·      11% checked social networks

Last year, interest in the internet of things (IoT) for home-based technologies made the largest year over year increase, going from 53 to 65% – a 22 percent increase. Topic-specific interest in purchasing a self-driving car has increased 50 percent during the same time span. Although today’s homeowners are actively and eagerly incorporating home-based and auto-based technologies into their everyday lives, they do have some concerns, chief among them security and privacy.

3 Smart Home Features Today’s Home Buyers Want

Home buyers, especially new construction home buyers, are increasingly excited about the potential smart home benefits they can immediately enjoy as new home owners. That said, it’s worth pointing out that most if not all of these smart home technology solutions can be retrofitted to just about any home of any age.

Home Security and Access

Technology enables today’s home buyer to make their home more safe and secure. 24×7 home monitoring and security systems that are triggered by unauthorized access or motion detected within the home have been available for many years, but today’s home owners can access the information immediately and see video in real time of their home’s exterior and interior spaces.

Today’s homeowners can also program one or many different access codes into door entry keypads. Instead of making keys for kids who need access after school, house cleaners, care givers, guests, dog sitters and so on, a virtually unlimited number of key codes can be created, helping the home owner ensure access while also keeping their home safe.

Smart Home Efficiency

Technology makes it possible for today’s homeowners to improve efficiencies in nearly every home utility and appliance, including HVAC, refrigerators, washers and dryers, irrigation and sprinkler systems and more.

Entertainment

Home-based technology innovations aren’t only about practical matters. As entertainment devices become more and more sophisticated, a home owner can “do it all” from their television thanks to Wi-Fi, home internet, cable or satellite television and streaming services.

4 Smart Automobile Features Today’s Homeowners Want

One of the benefits of buying a new car is that many smart automobile features come standard. Several of these smart car IoT solutions are very helpful to homeowners, in particular.

Navigation, Traffic and Weather

For homeowners that want to spend more time where it really counts, minimizing their commutes and travel time is a must. Cars that can provide information about traffic and weather conditions and offer smart navigation routes can mean more time at home, work or play – and less time in transit – for today’s homeowners.

Automobile Security, Safety and Access

Just like at home, technology can help the car owner keep their vehicle safer with alarms and monitoring, or track its whereabouts in real time if stolen or appropriated by another member of the family (like a teen driver). Smart cart tech also gives vehicle owners the ability to access the automobile should they find they’ve locked the keys inside or need to give someone else access to the car.

Smart Automobile Efficiency

Just like they do at home, today’s consumers want their cars to contribute to efficient maintenance and operations. Smart automobile technology can now handle everything from telling the driver when (and sometimes even where) to fuel up and when to get their vehicle service for optimal efficiency.

Entertainment

It can be relaxing to “unplug” from technology, news, social networks, phone calls and text messages while in transit, but it can also be stressful when those connections are needed. Today’s tech gives the driver the ability to seamlessly connect to streaming entertainment to pass the time or safely connect to communication apps if they need to get in touch with others.
